Why this happens
Why are some babies more unsettled than others? Why do these babies cry more, appear “gassy” or uncomfortable, or struggle to settle to sleep? “Colic” is a word to describe this behaviour, but it’s not a diagnosis. Reflux means spitting up milk – but some babies do this and seem wholly unbothered. So what is going on? There can be lots of reasons for a baby being unsettled, including feeding issues (due to technique or things like oral ties/tongue ties), immature digestion, allergies or intolerances, or sometimes a combination of many small factors. Sometimes what's labelled as "colic" or "reflux" is actually a baby trying to communicate discomfort or unmet needs — and parents are left feeling helpless, confused, and exhausted.
Why it’s a problem
When your baby is unsettled, it can feel like nothing you do is helping. Feeding may become a battleground, sleep is broken, and you're constantly second-guessing yourself. It can impact bonding, your mental health, and your confidence as a parent. Over time, this stress can affect how feeding unfolds, how rest and routines develop, and how supported you feel in those early months.
How I can help you overcome it
I’ll take a holistic look at what’s going on — feeding, sleep, baby’s behaviour and temperament, and your own experience. Sometimes small changes to feeding technique or patterns can reduce discomfort, improve digestion, or help your baby feel more settled. Other times, reassurance and practical strategies are just what’s needed. You don’t have to navigate this alone — we’ll find clarity together and help bring some calm back into your days.
