Why this happens
Sore or cracked nipples are one of the main reasons people seek breastfeeding help. The most common cause is how the baby is latching (even when you’ve already been told the latch “looks right”). Other factors might include tongue ties, pumping technique, friction from nipple shields, or even skin sensitivities (especially to silicone pump flanges and nipple shields). Whatever the cause, the pain is real and shouldn’t be dismissed as “normal.”
Why it’s a problem
Nipple pain can make every feed feel like something to endure rather than enjoy. It may cause dread, anxiety, or even aversion to feeding. Cracked or bleeding nipples also increase the risk of infection and can lead to early weaning if not addressed quickly and gently.
How I can help you overcome it
Together, we’ll uncover what’s causing the discomfort. I’ll observe a feed, assess latch and positioning, and look for any underlying issues like oral restrictions or pump-related trauma. We’ll make adjustments to reduce pain, promote healing, and get feeding back on track — without pressure or judgment.
